What is AI sentiment for brand mentions?

AI sentiment describes the tone in which an AI answer talks about a brand: recommending, neutrally listing, or with reservations and criticism. It complements the bare mention, because being named as a negative example counts toward visibility but hurts the purchase decision.

Monitoring tools usually classify the sentences around a brand mention automatically, often with another language model. The result is a label per answer or an average across many answers. That automation adds a second layer of uncertainty: the judging model can misread irony, caveats or comparative statements.

The tone of an answer comes from the sources the engine draws on. If forums, review platforms or test reports contain recurring complaints, they often show up as a caveat in the answer. Outdated information, for example about pricing or discontinued features, can also create a negative undertone even though it is no longer true.

An average score hides what actually matters: which concrete statement the engine makes and where it comes from.

What it means for your website

When you see a negative label, read the sentence itself and find the source it relies on. If the statement is outdated or wrong, the lever is the source, for example an updated page of your own or a correction on a review platform. A sentiment number without the wording behind it is of little use for that work.
